MYRON SAYS:
"Chicago area denizens of darkness will want to creep on over to our Windy City Chills section for devilish details on Flashback Weekend at the Drive-In, the Music Box Massacre, and more!"
OUR CONTEST FOR SEPTEMBER:
CREATE YOUR OWN HORROR HOST PROGRAM TITLE AND YOU COULD WIN FRIGHT NIGHT ON DVD!
Here at Shadows & Screams, we love TV horror hosts. From our beloved Chicago-area icon Svengoolie to Count Gore DeVol on the web to the countless freaky fellows doing it for nothing on cable access outlets across the country…we love ‘em all (well, most of them). And with one of the most famous TV horror hosts – Elvira, Mistress of the Dark – returning to the airwaves this month, we thought it was a good time to pay tribute to the cultural institution of cheap sets, outlandish make-up and jokes as likely to make you groan as laugh. So, this month we ask intrepid Shadows & Screams visitors to come up with a name for their own horror host showcase. If he didn’t have such a busy stalking schedule, we thought our pal Myron would make a wonderful host, so here is our sample submission:
Myron Morbidio’s Mausoleum of Movie Mayhem
You don’t have to use that much alliteration, but I think you get the idea. The program title we like best will win its creator a DVD of Tom Holland’s hugely entertaining Fright Night, featuring Roddy McDowall as imaginary TV horror host Peter Vincent. Fright Night is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, so what better time to get yourself a freebie copy?
Click here to enter and read the rules and usual disclaimers. Hurry! Entry deadline is September 28!
SHADOWS & SCREAMS CONGRATULATES ROB GACZOL!
Hey, I think we know this guy! No nepotism here though. Cartoonist, serial photographer and lord of the Meander Box, Rob Gaczol earned his victory in our contest for August. We asked readers to come up with a Frankenstein sit-com “mash-up” title. Rob not only came up with a pretty original title, but also offered a schmaltzy show synopsis we couldn’t resist:
Please Don’t Eat the Frankensteins!
In a wacky world overrun with cannibalistic zombies and other hideous creatures, the Frankensteins are downright normal! In this classic comedy, the Monster & his Mate run a truck-stop restaurant, so there’s always someone (or something!) new and zany stopping by for a quick bite and a barrel of laughs! By the end of each episode, along with a load of chuckles, we've also learned something about getting along with each other, no matter our differences.
For you younger readers, please reference Please Don’t Eat the Daisies. For his winning entry, Rob will receive a copy of Joe Bob Briggs Presents Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter. Thanks to Rob and all who entered!
